Agricultural Entrepreneurship Programme
ACEIDEV commenced agricultural entrepreneurship programmes aimed at galvanizing and providing platforms for marginalized and small holders’ farmer in rural areas to leverage on the power of organized groups to benefit from government intervention policies and programmes for food security.
The Organization worked with small holding farming communities in Karshi, a satellite settlement in Abuja to undergo 3 months training on modern farming techniques and in practicing farming as a business. The farmers were further trained on risk management in farming business, farm business record keeping, financial management, marketing of produce and techniques in accessing government agriculture intervention loans and grant.
130 farmers were trained during the 3 months period, and the farmers were further mobilized to form a cooperative society so as to obtain loans, grants and other intervention funds for agriculture from the government.
The organization also is mobilizing women groups in Pyanko Village in Karu LGA of Nasarawa state to prod them into embarking in commercial farming through group farming or cooperative society. This is to curb the marginalization of women groups who otherwise are often overburdened from the domestic tolls on them and the demands of taking care of the family with their meagre income. The project is aimed at creating enabling environment for the women to directly gain control of the means of their livelihood so as to support the family system.
